L’edizione 2019 degli “MTV VMA (Video Music Awards)”, spostati quest’anno all’arena indoor del New Jersey, sarà ricordata innanzitutto per la vittoria di Taylor Swift, non solo nella categoria principale di “video of the year” con la sua “You Need To Calm Down”, che ha anche cantato nell’opening a lei affidata insieme all’altro successo “Lover”, prima di essere poi introdotta per ritirare la statuetta, in Atelier Versace, dall’attore John Travolta.. ma anche nelle due categorie minori di “video for good” e per i “best visual effects” con un altro brano, “ME!”.
Alla coppia Shawn Mendes e Camila Cabello, sul tappeto rosso rispettivamente in Dolce & Gabbana e Balmain, è andato invece il premio per la “best collaboration” con la hit estiva “Senorita”, che i due hanno eseguito dal vivo entusiasmando il pubblico.. mentre alla band dei “Jonas Brothers” e ad Ariana Grande sono stati riconosciuti, nell’ordine, il “best pop video” con “Sucker”.. la “best art direction” per “7 Rings”, la “song of summer” con “Boyfriend” ed il titolo di “artist of the year”. Ma sul palco è tornata anche Miley Cyrus, fresca di addio al marito Liam Hemsworth (QUI e QUI i precedenti post), ascoltata per la prima volta nella sua “Slide Away”..
Ed altri due riconoscimenti sono stati attribuiti nel corso della lunga serata: allo stilista Marc Jacobs, a cui è stato consegnato il primo “MTV Fashion Trailblazer Award” nella storia dell’evento musicale.. e alla rapper Missy Elliott, che ha ricevuto il prestigioso “Video Vanguard Award” (negli anni scorsi concesso già a Pink, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Kanye West e Jennifer Lopez).
